With a new decade coming along with this year, I figured it was only fitting to do some planning and goal setting about it. For that reason, I decided to create a goal journal/ folio to jot down my goals for not only this year but goals to be accomplished in this decade. I did not only made the folio but also jotted down ideas for how you could fill it and different ways you can establish your goals for this decade in it. If you are interested in knowing how I built said folio, make sure to keep reading.

The Supplies

  • Blank Printing Paper
  • Cardstock (of your color preference)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Coloring Tools (optional)
  • Sticky Notes (optional)
  • Traveler’s Notebook Insert or Thin Journal

Folio

The first thing we are going to do is create the body of the folio. Down below, I have a photo with the exact measurements and structure of the folio I created; the important thing is to make it so that it can hold whatever size of the journal you are using. I made the journal I will be using and as a reference, it has the measurements of a standard-sized traveler’s notebook. If you would like me to make a post on how I created the insert or a little tutorial video on my social media, make sure to comment on your request down below in the comments section.

The blue lines are where you need to apply the glue.

In the picture, I put the direction if which the cardstock needs to be folded and where you need to apply the glue for it to be completely built as well as the order of the folding.

Sticky Notes

After that comes a little sticky notes folio I decided to make just to add another element to the folio. As before, in the picture I left the measurements I used to make mine.

Decorations

For the decoration of the folio, I just added things as I wanted. For instance, I already knew that I wanted to draw a Moana from a tutorial. As for the background, I just put tape on the edges to create a clean frame for when I colored in with the watercolors.

I drew the Moana on a separate piece of paper and then glued it on the cover after coloring in with watercolors. I then used gel pens to add the Moana quote and to add a drop shadow to the word dream I painted at the bottom of the cover.

Also, to color in the Moana, I just used Crayola Colored Pencils.

The Journal

On the pocket, I decided to create a sort of gold-brown background with a quote from the musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton, which I fully recommend it if you have not listened to it or seen.

As for the journal itself, I painted a sort of galaxy-ish background to represent my love for Star Wars and did a doodle drawing of the house of Tinker Bell because I have always really enjoyed the movies and liked the idea of Tinker Fairies.

Sticky Note Folio

The cover of the little sticky note booklet has the silhouette of Minnie and Mickey Mouse because I just love Disney and can never have enough of it.

To finish off the booklet, I added a variety of sticky notes that I got from the Disney Store and from another sticky note booklet I had lying around. I have a picture of how the booklet insides turned out at the end.

The Categories

The best way that I find to set up my goals for this next decade was to first do a quick brainstorm of my goals for life in general. After that, I determined the different categories for said goals and take those categories and goals brainstorm and establish the goals that I would like to accomplish in the next ten years and add other goals that I could think of to fulfill.

  • Emotional=This category is filled with any goals regarding my mental and emotional health.
  • Personal=The personal category based on all the things I want to do in life for my own fulfillment. This is more like the list of the main goals I have in life.
  • Creative=Any goals that involve artistry and creative projects I want to do.
  • Intellectual=Any academic goals and things I want to learn such as languages, pottery, marketing, etc.
  • Environmental=This does not only involve my environment as in the earth but also includes the house I want to live in and what sort of environment I want to have around me in life.
  • Friends and Family=Pretty self-explanatory, any family and friend traditions I would like to keep up and trips I’d like to make with my friends and family.
  • Health=This has more to do with my physical health.
  • Travel=I would love to travel as many places as I could and here I would jot down those places and do some creative journaling about them.

Another Folio

This is actually the first folio I made and as you can see, I made it out of a regular folder. I made this one with one of my best friends and decorated it with acrylic paints, gel pens and did some journaling cards to write motivational quotes on. As you can see, you don’t need to get new and fancy supplies to create the folio. Just your creativity and imagination.

Remember that you can have your own categories of what you want to focus on for the next ten years. May you fulfill all of your dreams and have an amazing new year.
