Halfway through last year, I decided to develop a self-care day or more specifically add more self-care to my day to day and have a specific day in the week in which I go a little bit further in my self-care. Today, I will be jotting how my ideal self-care day looks like.

I did some brainstorming and planning before establishing my self-care routine. If you are interested in creating your own and step up your self-care, I recommend you check out the free workbook I created on self-love and care that has a bunch of things the can help updo that. You can get it by subscribing to my weekly newsletter. For ideas and other self-care activities you can do I recommend you check out this post or get my workbook to work on it on your own.

Morning

Wake up early

The first thing that helps me have a good self-care day is waking up early and the reason why that helps me is because since my official self-care day lands on a Tuesday, what I call self-care Tuesday (I know, very creative), I need to wake up early not only to arrive on time at school but also so that I can have a little bit of extra time in the morning to do some self-care. I will do my usual morning routine like washing my teeth and stuff and head over to do some self-care.

Meditate

This is something that I have incorporated in my January habits and now kept it up for February. I find that is a great thing to get your ideas sorted and for someone like me who feels like I need to run a marathon each morning to get ready for school, I find it helpful to meditate and slow down my mind to know that I have time to do the things that I want to do for the day and to just have a more positive mindset throughout the day. Now, I’m not used to being an early bird and my genes lead more towards being a night owl so I would recommend for anyone who’s like me in that sense to use a guided meditation because if I use a solely instrumental one in the morning I will straight off fall asleep.

Read

I love reading and it is something that I consider essential to have a great self-care day. Reading helps me just entertain myself and have fun. I recently made a whole blog post on how I established a reading habit for my day to day life because for me that is very important. As you can see, some of the self-care things I’m mentioning are not only taking place on my Self-Care Tuesday, I believe that it is important to do a little bit of self-care every single day to carry a healthy mindset through life.

Bullet Journal

Another thing I do on a day to day basis is bullet journaling as you may well know. I like to look at my bullet journal and do some planning if I need to and review my to-do list for the day and check out my school calendar because I don’t have that great of a memory.

School

I then go and spend my day at school in my classes and make sure I drink water throughout the day to keep myself hydrated. There’s nothing much to school aside from that and any meetings I may have for the clubs I’m part of.

Evening

Watch a movie

On a self-care day, I like to watch a movie just for the sake of entertainment and because I like to keep up with what’s out there. I may watch one in a streaming service like Netflix, Hulu or Disney Plus or just check out in my upcoming movies spread that is in my bullet journal if I want to go to the cinema. What are you looking forward to watching this year at the cinema?

Listen to Great Music

A great day is filled with a lot of great music so I make sure to have music playing in the background when I’m working and stuff. I tend to listen to Ambient Worlds when I’m writing, my self-care playlist when I’m doing other things like crafting and Hamilton: An American Musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda any time of any day.

Pampering

Something that I do that is very particular for a self-care day is pampering. I like to do a little bit of extra skincare for the week and wash my hair and paint my nails and so. These just setups the mood for me that it’s a self-care day.

Creative Journal or Crafting

I’m a crafter and I don’t always have time to craft in my week and that’s why I make sure that on Self Care Tuesdays I do some crafting and creative journaling. For this month I will be using the prompts I shared with you for Self Care.

Work on a Creative Project

I’m creative and as a creative, I need to work on something artistic every day to feel accomplished. Every day I make sure I have something creative to work on and now, most of the time I’m working on this website, it is content and design improvements I can make to it. That is one of the things that I love the most about blogging and that is that there is always room to improve and things to learn. I also have other creative projects such as writing a book and things I want to do around the house.

Night

Read

I try to do a little bit more reading at night before I go to bed to wind down from the hectic day. Reading is one of those things that make me really happy and I recommend to everyone to try and make a habit of it. If you are interested in developing a reading habit, I encourage you to check out this post.

Journal and Gratitude

Lastly in my day, (after my night routine of taking a shower, washing my teeth, etc.) I journal and fill out the spreads that I like to fill daily in my bullet journal like my gratitude log and habit tracker.

Sometimes life happens and I’m not able to have my self-care day on Tuesdays but I do my best to have a self-care day on a weekly basis. I hope you liked this post and found it helpful. I hope you like the self-care workbook and find it useful. If you want to get it and a weekly newsletter every Saturday to see the fun content I post every week as well as any extra important stuff posted on social media feel free to subscribe to my email list and/or check out the social media and see the posts and other fun content there.

xoxo, Patrick.
